difrent languages

Postby mad me ye » Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:41 pm

hello my name is dean or in game name - mad me ye.
i have come up with a solution to all of your problems.
have you ever spoken to someone and they dont understand you or you dont understand them?.
well here is my idea.
this idea will change dots forever and not in a bad way :)

my idea is about makeing a language setting, i will now speak a little bit about it.
if your speaking to a german or someone else that comes from a diferent ethnic group and your english or whatever you may not understand that person so with this idea i have thought about it allows you to understand anyone and yes i mean anyone what they are saying.

(this is what ide do if i was a dev) what ide do is make a setting that allows you to change what language you want to receive the language in.

for e.g. - (english people)(sent) hello my name is mad me ye
for e.g. - (german people)(recieved) Hallo, mein Name ist mad me ye
or
for e.g. - (german people)(sent) Hallo, mein Name ist mad me ye
for e.g. - (english people)(recieved) hello my name is mad me ye

and ect for other languages please tell me if you understand me and if you would like this to happened
p.s yes devs i know its ALOT of work but this is prob an exelent idea to happen and it would make dots ALOT BETTER

What I'm getting from your suggestion is that everything we write run through a translater. I am not a fan of this and here is why, for one translaters are junk and don't ever translate everything correctly anyone who has used one knows this. 2 an advance like this in the chat is bound to cause lag as when chat is busy it is a major cause of lag. 3 I have a feeling it would cause more confusion on who you were talking to. The way it is now if I want to have a convo with a German person I either get a friend to be the translator or I speak in very plain basic English so the translator they use can properly translate what I say. Even with that there is a lot of repeating yourself to get the right message across. I'm voting no on this because I think it would cause more problems than its worth and in lots of ways I think it would kill the diverse feeling of the game.

But mad if this were a perfect world and things worked exactly as they were intended then I think this would be a wonderful addition to the game.

but there is where you hit a not in the rope it wont lag if devs make it so you can download it to your computer just like graphics pack you can just turn it on,or off when u want it will not slow dots down or your com[uter it only has millions of words that even less than 0.5% on your computer.

your computer is now running millions or even billions of codes and that hardly slows it down (but it might if you have realy **** comp)

so this is a good idea if it is done right

Its not the idea thats flawed. As said above translators are terrible. With each language there comes a different style in how we speak and how sentences are contructed. It just wouldn't work i'm afraid.

If you could create a working piece of software that translated instant messages accurately then I think you could be a pretty rich man.

Just to prove a point Im going to translate what PA wrote because translaters are junk. He speaks more proper english than most so this will be a good example.

What he wrote :
"Its not the idea thats flawed. As said above translators are terrible. With each language there comes a different style in how we speak and how sentences are contructed. It just wouldn't work i'm afraid.

If you could create a working piece of software that translated instant messages accurately then I think you could be a pretty rich man."

To german:
"Sein nicht die Idee thats rissig gemacht. Wie gesagt, über Übersetzern sind schrecklich. Mit jeder Sprache kommt dort ein verschiedener Stil darin, wie wir sprechen, und wie Sätze contructed sind. Es würde gerade nicht arbeiten ich habe Angst.

Wenn Sie ein Arbeitsstück der Software schaffen konnten, die sofortige Nachrichten genau dann übersetzte, denke ich, dass Sie ein ziemlich reicher Mann sein konnten."

Since I dont speak german I will translate it back to english:
His not the idea thats cracked done. As said, about translators are awful. With every language a different style comes there to how we speak, and how sentences contructed are. It would not just work I am afraid.

If you could create a working piece of the software which translated immediate news exactly then, I think that you could be a quite rich man.

Mind you this is the very same program. The reason that ALL translation programs fail is because in every language there are rules for basic sentence structures. Like where nouns and adjectives and what not go. The problem is people dont use proper grammer when they openly communicate. The only time proper language is used is in a formal setting and that is true in every language. Slang is also an issue. These words wont be recognized or translated because they are simply part of spoken language and not writen. Then lets take into account the variations of different languages. You have English, then british english, then down south english. How about spanish lots of forms of that... Like I said before in a perfect world if everyone followed the perfect rules of their own language and if language was actually a pure untainted thing and there was a translator out there that didnt stink then this would be a good idea. This simply isnt the case.

no from me too.. why? because not all languages have the same rules regarding grammar and the translator programs are just programs that translates a text word by word.. leaving most of the expressions behind.. and they sometimes make the text to be even harder to be understood in your own language than in the original one..
